A Mothers Love

Mother – that was the bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries.
– T. DeWitt Talmage
My mother is the most amazing woman I can ever have. God blessed me with a strong loving mother. She grounded me with conservative values. Teaches me everyday to keep doing good and make right decisions. I can recall a time in my youth when I rebelled against her. Those times I much regret being an ugly daughter but today thankful for she taught me that its important to respect myself and value myself. Proud that she was tough on me. It was then that I realized I had a lot to learn from her.

I have had my mistakes, my hurts, and my success but mother always has the right words to comfort me. She reminds me to always humble myself. She is the smartest woman I know. She gives me advice  in all aspects of my life.  As I spend time with my parents in South Texas and as the date gets closer to her birthday and Mothers Day I could not help but give her the praise she deserves.  At times when my best friends are busy or occupied I always know that she is my number one. She comforts me, grounds me, and humbles me. She is my best friend, my everything.

I am prepared for my future especially of becoming a mother and I know that I will be ready to take on that task of motherhood because my heart is full of love ready to be given and shared.

Happy Birthday momma you raised one tough, caring, giving and loving woman!

Peace and Love!

Easter 2014

Three years ago my family lost my Grandfather De Leon on Easter Sunday 2012.  It was very hard on me and for some of my family members. None the less, I was overcome with Peace of Heart that day. Didn't quite feel the pain or had time to mourn. Since his death, I have my moments. I have thoughts of how if possible things could be different. This year I was reminded that I should rejoice his death as I should rejoice for Jesus resurrection.

This Easter was more meaningful for me. That is not to say it never was but for me it was just different. As I sit here today I can't help but remember something of the many few conversations my Grandfather and I had. They were beautiful moments and memories. I will never forget.  As I remembered my memories with him, I was drawn to how I have two grandmothers left, my maternal and paternal grandmothers. Both of them wonderful women with their distinct personalities. Both of them are very traditional and very conservative women, but I must say I laugh more with my Grandma Q. She gets my humor, my sarcasm and my sillyness :-) I just love her lots!

Easter at Grandma Q's house can't be expressed in words - we are just a crazy-fun bunch! I love each and every one of my aunts and uncles. Yesterdays Easter was the first time I had laughed so much. We are still a very much traditional family where the men are kings in my grandmothers home. As a Christian woman, my husband will be treated the same. Even though I am a very independent woman, I will submit myself to my husband as that is what the Lord calls on wives to do. I have great parents and an amazing mother so I will not have a problem in that area. None the less, Easter is my most favorite day of the year. For me it is the day Jesus has Risen! God is Alive! The beginning of a new life and my chance to continue to follow Him all the days of my life. I am one blessed little lady and I can't help to share with the world how much Love I have for Him and how thankful I am to God for letting His only Son die on the cross to save me for my sins. Thank Jesus! I love you :-)

Hope everyone has had a blessed weekend and wish nothing but the best for you and your families.

Peace and Love!

There is nothing wrong with ALWAYS being Thankful!

My Monday started off with some high winds, rain, and hail. YES, HAIL. I enjoyed watching mother nature from bedroom balcony as I enjoyed my morning coffee. Thankfully, I did not have to be on the road so earlier but had to take care of some work from home. As I stood by my balcony door looking out into the Colorado River, I could not just be so thankful and I consumed myself in that beauty of that moment.

You see everyone has a story. Everyone has been through something in their lives that either moves them to do more for the good or be content with what they have.  Never in a million years would I have imagined my life to be so rewarding, loving, and full of joy.

I can remember when I worked at Burger King, at Bealls, at Autozone. Yes, at Autozone, and I do know about trucks, since I did have a Chevy Silverado 4x4 extended cab with mud tires. Yup, that was me and Old Sebastian, of which as retired to the comfort of my dads home. But all that I am today, my determination to keep doing good and working hard has def paid off. As my morning got going and the sun warming up the day, I was just consumed in getting some work done. It felt really good. I enjoy those days.

I didn't realize how fast time had past by. I forget I had invitation to catch up with a colleague. Not only that I got to see Senator Lucio and some other colleagues in the field at the same time. Being the young one is always interesting because I am surrounded by veterans in the industry and hearing their stories and how they started in Texas Government and Politics is what I honestly love to hear.  We all can talk about work and the issues that are affecting the state but the most joyous times for me is listening how they got into government. Their stories were similar like mine, working for a legislative office and then transitioning out.  I didn't find my story any different. Like the lady I met, she was one of the first Latina lobbyist in the state.

Like her I think our stories were similar. Entered into Texas Government at 19 and we haven't left. She chatted with me some of her most memorable moments and achievements. Her love of her community but most importantly her career. She gave me tips on how to stay grounded and keep the success going.  It is powerful when a woman empowers another young woman. At times it easy for some women to not extend that arm or hand to someone and in my experience I have been blessed with women who inspire me each day to keep pushing forward and knowing that I have their support as I muddle through the world of politics and government. It is not an easy task, but I love it. I love the fact that knowledge is key but most importantly the relationships and friendships you establish. My parents always emphasized to be respectful and courteous to all. I am thankful for that. But, I am also more thankful in having such grand faith that my purpose in this world is far greater than my own understanding.

It is days like this Monday where I can appreciate and be thankful for all the blessings God has provided me with. My story is my own but being around those who share similar beginnings is always the story one can hear. Thank you! and watch out world Mari is coming through!

Peace & Love
